A forthcoming book by Jaira David  ✦  December 2026 target

You were raised by humans. So were they.

We inherit more than our parents’ features. We carry their fears, expectations, ways of loving, and sometimes the very patterns we swore we’d never repeat. What if understanding could change what happens next?

Book news, reading reflections, and first notice of release.

Some family wounds are not born from hate, but from humanity.

01 / The familiar misunderstanding

Same family. Different meanings.

Sometimes a parent’s words are shaped by worry, sacrifice, or fear. Sometimes those same words land as rejection, shame, or pressure. Understanding both sides doesn’t excuse harm. It gives us language for what was happening underneath.

Do you rehearse your answers before a family dinner has even begun?

Have you ever felt guilty for wanting a life different from the one they imagined?

As a parent, do you wonder why your care does not land the way you hoped?

“I’m only telling you this for your own good.”

What you heard

“You’re never enough as you are.”

What they said

“Be practical. Think about your future.”

What you heard

“I don’t believe in your dreams.”

02 / Inside the book

A different way to look at the people closest to you.

Stories, reflection, an Enneagram lens, and a faith-rooted invitation to recognize what we inherited, and take responsibility for what we pass on.

01 , LOOK BACK

Understand the people who raised you.

Explore how fear, sacrifice, expectations, and unspoken needs can shape the language of family love.

The people who raised us
02 , LOOK WITHIN

Recognize the patterns you carry.

Notice why certain words still sting, why old roles return, and how our protective habits can outlive childhood.

The inner pattern
03 , LOOK FORWARD

Choose what you pass on.

Understanding isn’t agreement. It can be the beginning of boundaries, accountability, mercy, and a different response.

A different inheritance
An invitation, not an excuse
We were raised by humans. Our parents were raised by humans too. Inherited patterns do not have to become permanent identities.

An invitation to understand what we carry forward

03 / A letter from the author

For everyone who loves their family and still struggles to understand them.

The pattern you struggle with in your family may be one you are carrying forward.
Jaira David

I began asking why the people who love us can also frustrate, disappoint, and misunderstand us. Over time, I had to confront another question: what if some of the reactions I resented were now appearing in me?

Raised by Humans explores the complicated language of family relationships, the ego beneath our responses, and the possibility of relating from a freer place. It brings together personal stories, the Enneagram as a tool for reflection, and the conviction that grace and truth belong together.

We cannot rewrite every part of our upbringing. We can become more honest about what we carry forward.

Understanding someone’s history never excuses abuse or requires reconciliation, continued contact, or unsafe relationships. The book is reflective and educational, not a diagnostic or therapeutic service.

05 / Questions worth asking

Before you begin.

Do I need to know the Enneagram?

No. The Enneagram is a reflection framework used within the book, not a requirement for reading it. You can begin with your own experiences of family and relationship.

Is this book only for Christians?

The author’s worldview is Christian, and faith is part of the story. The questions about family, inherited behavior, and relating with greater honesty are recognizable across backgrounds.

What if I have an unsafe relationship with a parent?

Understanding someone’s motivations does not require excusing mistreatment or staying in contact. Your safety, boundaries, and agency matter.

When will the book be available?

We’re currently targeting December 2026, with the release date still to be confirmed. Join the reader list for the confirmed release date and buying options when they’re ready.
